I now have a pet snapping turtle. it is only a hatchling. I keep it in the biology classroom during school but on breaks (like Thanksgiving) i take it home with me. Its mom layed her eggs because of the warm weather a couple of weeks ago but now since it is so cold the hatchling could die. it is missing a bunch of toe nails, one of the few defences a baby snapper has. Snappers cannot hide in their shell. babies cannot snap. this trutle would be screwed. since it is so little it cannot fend for itself. this turtle will live to be anywhere from 30-50 years old. i will have to keep it the entire time. they do not trust anyone except their owner/caretaker. they won't learn how to fight in the wild. this turtle would be dead now, but my mom fornd it and gave it to me. I am going to tell yall how it is doing each day.

Today turtle didn't seem to eat much. I am going to have to buy him some guppies. I also have to buy him a UVB light so his shell won't get soft. i would just put him in direct sunlight but i can't because ther is no sunlight in our biology classroom.

Yeah, if it's a boy, you're totally naming it Swoosh. And if it's a girl... Swooshette.

Update: Randi is on fall break and thus brought the turtle home (where her giant Labrador resides). She is going to bring it to DC with her.
I'm betting it'll be dead by the end of next week.
