Eveyrthing I've heard about this movie, from Disney geeks and non-Diisney geeks alike, has been positive. I'm seeing it some time this week - anyone who's seen want to share an opinion?

I'm excited about a new Menken score! I still don't know if this will be as good as the Menken/Ashman scores of Disney past.

I wasn't paying too much attention to the orchestral score, but the musical numbers aren't that great...

Really? I've heard "That's How You Know" in Central Park was amazing.
Anyway, the music's Menken/Schwartz, the team who gave us Pocahontas, Hunchback, and Hercules.

^That song was really really good, but none of the others were really noteworthy.

I saw it. I was okay...Idina was awesome, though.
BTW, I predicted the ending 30 minutes into the movie.
The copied SO much from other Disney movies, though.

I'm sure many did. The point of the movie wasn't to be unpredictable - most romantic comedies and spoofs aren't, and this happens to be both.
That's the point of a parody...
Since I know Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, Newsies, etc.) is capable of good music, and Schwartz (Wicked, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Prince of Egypt, etc.) is capable of good lyrics, I have to assume they made the songs intentionally cheesy and cliche as part of the spoof.

Pocahontas, Hunchback, and Hercules. The music of these films is great, but they don't even come close to The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin.

If by music you mean the songs as a whole, then I'd agree. Although, since the same guy wrote the music for all six movies mentioned (music as opposed to lyrics), I don't see why there would be a quality shift.

Hmmm, I should give those another chance. Yes, the orchestration (omg, Pocahontas...and those horns in Hercules!) is fantastic. So I guess you're right in saying that it's the lyrics that contribute to the overall "magic" of the score.
