Uh... I like showtunes, (GOOD) soundtracks, alternative rock, and classic rock about equally. This is way too specific.

I voted for classical, because it's one of my favorites, and it's the one I appreciate the most. But I also like film score (soundtracks), 70s-90s music, and any good pop/rock bands that actually have musical integrity.

Kathleen, theatrical music is called "showtunes." Anywho, that's what I voted for.

um..... Something cannot soung gay thank you very much. some people will take offense to that and if I were you i would quickly come up with a different word to describe what you were feeling. How in the world something can sound like it likes people of the same gender i don't know. don't test me on this subject or you will be sorry

What I think she means is that it sounds affemiate and very blatantly "showy", which are characteristics we associate with gay people. This a very common stereotype and colloquialism, and no one needs to get uptight about it. Everyone's a little bit prejudiced...
On topic, I'm into Showtunes the most, followed by classic rock, punk rock, and alternative rock, in that order. Hip-hop's fun at parties, but I would never listen to it alone or to relax. I also like jazz, which you didn't put up there, I don't think.

I don't know, it just does... I think it's the random, unpredictable melody patterns. (Not unpredictable as in... "wow, that was unpredictible!" but as in the way that a dripping faucet is unpredictable. yeah. I are sleep.) And the freaking saxophone. That too. It's not like opera, though. Opera unlocks feelings of hatred and homicidal desires buried deep within my soul. I'm not even exaggerating. Must've been a since-blocked childhood trauma.

Well, opera is most definitely an acquired taste. I really appreciate classical music, but of all the classical genres, I think opera is the most difficult to really get into.
I think the best way to introduce someone to opera is by taking them to one that's in ENGLISH. It's difficult enough to understand them, but it's even more difficult when they're singing in Italian.
Opera is great, though. It's like musical theatre, only the performers can actually sing. *ducks*
