I think the debate thread is more of a way to know how people feel about something, learn the facts, and just... "expand our knowledge", not to shove things down people's throats.
The possibility that someone is going to change their views is fairly unlikely, but you can't say that it's "pointless" because if this is pointless, everything else on the forum is completely pointless.
I really wish you wouldn't get so worked up over people just expressing their opinions. 99% of the people on this forum disagree with what I think, and I don't hate any of them.
If this is really going to make everyone this upset, we might as well just get rid of the board because my friends are more important to me than a section on the forum.

Dude, wtf is with you people? It's a freaking debate thread. What happens in the debate threads stays in the debate threads. I will cuss you out on this board and then run up and glomp you the next day. Not a FRACTION of my respect for people has been diminished due to this board. It's just a place to express your opinions. If you're a creationist, Christian, atheist, Satanist, pro-lifer, anti-gay marriage person, whatever, I'll still be your BFF if you think Jeremie's funny.
Stop being so freakin' uptight, everyone. Gawd, the one problem with theatre kids: we like to make huge drama out of the stupidest things. Rent/PotO war, anyone?
completely off-topic: dude, Maria, your pink eyeliner is sexy.

You know, I noticed that. Did you actually get pink eyeshadow or is that photoshop-ified, Maria?

What I don't understand is why people mind if we express our own opinions. Everyone knows that everybody doesn't have the same opinions. The thing is, we work around them and accept our friends for who they are. We don't really give a care about their Religious and Political views. At least, I don't.

Okay...
1. Yes, I borrowed Nina's pink eyeliner to take pictures =P I don't wear it in public, though.
2. I think I've made myself clear. This thread should not tear us apart! Honestly, all of this is JUST A STUPID FORUM! Just a bunch of words and things we post that we feel at the moment.
BOTTOM LINE: If you decide who your friends are based on some stupid argument on the forum that isn't taken that seriously except by you, you need to take a chill pill... or a spoon full of sugar...
There are times when debating is taken VERY seriously, but that time is NOT on this forum!

Like everyone else said, I love this board SOOOO much because you can verbally tear apart someone's argument one day and then go and give them the hugest hug the next. I don't think any less of anyone for the arguments and beliefs they post here, because, as Joy said, what happens in the debate threads STAYS i nthe debate threads.

...and like the debates, this thread shouldn't be taken incredibly seriously as well I think that all of us are mature enough to decide whether or not they should remain friends with someone on the forum based on something they said. As long as the person didn't say, "You're stupid for thinking that" or "Haha, what a loser!", there's no reason to take it so personally. I disagree with a lot of people, and some matters are very very important to me in the debate thread. I take some of them very seriously, but when someone disagrees and I think their reasoning doesn't make sense, I keep to myself about things like that. Not in a condescending way, but it's better to keep to yourself than saying "OH MY GOSH I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU!" What do you think is more likely to let someone know they're wrong, saying "OH MY GOSH I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD EVER THINK THAT! THAT'S SO AWFUL!", or saying, "Well I understand where you're coming from because that's a common standpoint, but this is why I don't think that..." ?

^that's what Franklin did. Well that's simply because Benjamin Franklin is a beast, Joy, so he has the right to do it. And besides! He did it with style.
