FNY, or Future New Yorkers, is a group that was created to unite kids our age who want to move to New York City when we grow up. FNY was originally created as a support group to help kids keep sight of “the dream”, as we call it (cheesy, I know) of moving to NYC. On top of that, FNY is also supposed to be a large group of close friends who every so often get together and do things together – likethis month's Christmas party or next month’s “NewNuma filming”. Eventually, FNY may be able to even arrange a large trip to New York for all of our members so we can experience firsthand how awesome it would be for all of us to be in New York together. FNY has big dreams, but the only way to accomplish them is for people to join!!!
WHO CAN JOIN: Right now our main focus is people involved in Greensboro Children’s Theatre and Lexington Youth Theatre, but ANYONE who has a goal of moving to NYC, or is even considering New York as a possibilty, can join!
WHY SHOULD I JOIN: Lots drama kids, as I like to call them, would love to move to New York when they grow up and follow their dreams there (whether they include acting or something completely different). BUT, many of them are eventually talked out of it by parents, friends or even themselves because its “too expensive” or they need to find “real jobs”. FNY is basically a support group – a group of friends who can help keep everyone else focused on “the dream” – moving to NYC. In the future, FNY will help everyone develop NYP’s (New York Plans) in order to make the goal of moving to New York a bit more realistic, and will also hear some words from some past and present New Yorkers about what living in New York is really like.
On top of all that, another great reason to join FNY is our (almost) monthly parties and get-togethers. Every month we’ll try to get all of our members to come together and do something. Each month will be different; maybe we’ll go out to eat or have a party. Maybe we’ll do as many crazy things as we can in a Wal-Mart without getting kicked out or film an entry to a video contest! Whatever we’re doing, you know it will be fun because you’ll be around people who are like you and understand you – drama kids.
HOW DO I JOIN: FNY is an official “group” on MySpace, so you can join it by visiting “groups.myspace.com/futurenewyorkers”. If you don’t have a MySpace, you can also join by e-mailing me at “swooshmeister@gmail.com” and telling me you want to be a member.
