Not to offend you, Keaton, but from what I've heard, a lot of CTG people are stuck up and cliquey, and it's hard to get a part there if you're new...

All the boardmember's kids get in all the shows, and all the daughters get Dorothy eventually. And it is hard when you're new, but everyone's been new at some point. And Kathleen, yes there are children. They're called extras, and besides, the play doesn't have to be as sucky as the movie (no offense to you HSM lovers). The play doesn't have to be EXACTLY like the movie. For instance, Jack Scott the announcer is a Narrator in the play, and him and Kelsi hook up in the end. There's even a new song in the play, Cellular Fusion (ask Swoosh). And you know HSM was gonna be called Grease 3. Don't make me go into that, Kathleen. One example: We're All In This Together vs. We Go Together.

It's about talking on cell phones, Joy. It's just a cheesy name, but it's in a cheesy play, so it works.
And just for anyone who doesn't like HSM, I still encourage you to try out, because
a) Lots of people in the LYT version hated the movie but still had tons of fun and b) Since GCT is dead, it would be cool to actually do a good play together again

Not to offend you, Keaton, but from what I've heard, a lot of CTG people are stuck up and cliquey, and it's hard to get a part there if you're new... Yeah, I've heard the same... In Oliver, one of the moms had a kid (probably 8 years old) who was constantly in Wizard of Oz, and she was complaining about how disorganized the Oliver costume day was and how Wizard of Oz was nothing like that and they always had everything worked out perfectly, etc. Basically she was just kinda bragging. I understand her point, and I'm sure it was more organized, but you have to consider the fact that Wizard of Oz has been showing for um... 10 YEARS... and it was Oliver's first time, so of course it was gonna be a little rough... Oh, and I dont want to offend anyone, but I really think that Wizard of Oz only exists to bring in more money for CTG... Because the theatrical quality is not up to par with other "Drama Center" shows, I guess... but it was still fun and the dancers are definitely talented

Okay, I admit, the casting of Wizard is at least 85 percent politics. That's not to say it isn't good.
BUT, each of CTG's shows, including Wizard, surpass all Drama Center shows as far as theatrical excellence goes (Ming Lee and Charlie were horrid, and I was IN Ming Lee). I heard Company with Livestock didn't go too well, either.
And also about costumes, not just for Wizard, trust me. CTG has it together and organized for EVERY show. Little Ziplock baggies for gloves, etc. The works. Also, CTG is more professional.

There's even a new song in the play, Cellular Fusion (ask Swoosh). Dangit! Swoosh, didn't we come up with the idea for a cell phone song like two summers ago?

Kathleen, it's a simple debation thread. Just cause you're fighting for one side and I'm fighting for another doesn't mean you shouldn't like it.

Is debation even a word?

There seems to be a contradiction here. Despite production values and overall quality and showiness, any theatre group whose members openly claim that OVER HALF THE CASTING is political and not based on which actor would best fit the role can't be truly proffessional, now can they?
As for your boasts about proffesionalism, better costuming, and all that. While your shows are not as good as your reputation and your stage moms make them out to be, I will admit that they are high quality performances and overall entertaining. However, I think the problem most people have with CTG people bragging is the sense of exclusiveness they seem to have. To them, they might as well be the only "proffesional" community theatre in the US, or so it seems. So let me just make it clear that, while CTG undoubtedly surpasses Drama Center in proffesionalism, so do over half the amteur theatres in this country, LYT among them.
Sorry if any of that sounded vicious...
