This is the newest skyscraper to be approved in NYC. It's around 800 feet tall, I estimate, and is being built by the WTC.
The Beekman Tower:
And check out this 76-story tower. It's designed by Frank Gehry and construction has started. It's also right by the WTC. Even though it's under construction, it could be anywhere from 880-980 feet tall and itsn't fully designed yet. It has a middle school inside of it.
This building is also being built right by the WTC (next to Tower 5):
I think it's around 700' tall.
Construction has just started on 11 Times Square:
This one will be built very soon. It's unique because it's basically the only skyscraper in front of the Empire State Building:
I think this was just cancelled:
These 60-story+ twins are being built right now:
I think this one was just approved:
Construction has started on this sexy building:
I have no idea:
I think this 60+ story tower is being built:
This is 610 Lex by Foster. I am pretty sure it has been approved:
This is the GS World HQ Tower, one of the most expensive buildings in the world; it's being built right next to the Freedom Tower.
Bank of America Tower is under construction now:
Across the river:
New York Times Tower was completed last month:
This modern tower has an unknown height, but I expect it will be one of the tallest:
The Hearst Tower rules. It was recently completed. Very sexy.
And all of that is only under 5% of all of the towers that are/will be going up soon on Manhattan Island. It doesn't even include the megaprojects, such as the WTC and MSG.
The greatest modern building in NY has to be the TW Twin Towers; they were completed recently.
The top is lit up well at night in the skyline. Truly one of the greatest modern buildings on Earth.
There are sections of the skyline that contain nothing but futuristic buildings; NY has a very diverse skyline. Some people are very, very ignorant about NYC. Most people won't believe that there's one modern skyscraper in NYC until you bang their head into it several times over. Most people believe that the NYC skyline is a place for only old buildings. You would be shocked by some of the reactions of people to the sleek, glassy, post-modern towers of the Trade Center. They'll say imbecilic stuff like it should not be in NY because NY "is not modern" or "a booming Asian city." The majority of NY's skyscrapers will be built in the 1990-2020 era. More buildings will be built in NYC than any "booming Asian city" will ever have.
There's one mega-project I have never mentioned on this site. It's because the NIMBYs killed it. It's called, or was called, the Con-Ed Site.
Proposed:
Tower 1 - 1,164 ft.
Tower 2 - 936 ft.
Tower 3 - 892 ft.
Tower 4 - 743 ft.
Tower 5 - 678 ft.
Tower 6 - 578 ft.
Tower 7 - 528 ft.Now all of them are under 400 feet tall (because tall buildings would "impose on the UN HQ")! Thank you, NIMBYs! Always thinking!
Wouldn't want to make those people from around the world feel small and imposed upon.
NIMBYs will use ANY and EVERY excuse to stop a tall building from being built. For the Beekman Tower, the excuse was
"the building's plaza is too beautiful." (They felt the building would attract unwanted people to their area, like tourists, college students, and skateboarders.) They failed.
