The old WTC had three skyscrapers and 4 small buildings; the New WTC will have six skyscrapers and a Performing Arts Center, and lots of other stuff, like a massive mall and over 12 ultra-modern trading floors (sort of like what you see in the NYSE).

They were not really doing much then. By late 2008, all of these new buildings will be going up at the same time, which is going to be one hell of a tourist attraction. I don't think there's a larger construction site on the planet.
No one has every tried building this many skyscrapers this close together before. Aside from the WTC, there are over 5 other skyscrapers going up in the same exact area (such as the Beekman and GS Towers, 111 and 123 Washington, and so many more 50+ floor buildings I can't list). Traffic jams are going to last for many, many hours.

That reminds me of all of the other stuff they're doing; they're even rebuilding the pedestrian bridges and decades of electric and water lines and rebuilding streets. In essence, all of Lower Manhattan is being rebuilt. Alas, construction crews even dicsover bones and other parts from people that were in the WTC, which is something that has become more and more common. I expect downtown to be fully rebuilt by 2012. I can't wait till the south port ferry terminal and subway work is completed. It will make things so much easier in terms of commuting.

People also complain about the noise. Back on topic, 1WTC will be the tallest office building in the world, that much is certain. It has well over 100 floors. The first 20 are part of a 50-foot-tall lobby and the pedestal, which is structurally reinforced and contains mega-columns around the perimeter. On top of that, you have 69 on office floors and a sky lobby. On floor 100 and 101, you have a world-class restaurant. Floor 102 is the observation deck, 1,300 feet in the sky. The floors on top of 102 are mechanical floors, and the floors on top of that are used for broadcasting; there may be an observation deck on top of the building’s massive crown or roof. The spire will be able to emit colored beams of light and will be able to change colors. The other new buildings will be lit up and decorated just as well and flashy, but in different ways. I was shocked the first time I saw those, and they don't even include the new buildings. The highest floor should be built sometime in late 2009 or 2010.

Yeah, it should look exactly like that. Larger planes should not be anywhere near it in the first place. Light pollution isn't a problem in NY that anyone is concered about. The only real problem is that supertall buildings with a lot of lights like that confuse and kill thousands and thousands of birds each year. I remember one night about decade ago, the Twin Towers killed something like over one thousand birds within a few hours because they were in large groups migrating. Since then, I think laws have been passed to control when lights can be on. Birds and tall buildings w/ lights don't mix.
